Chapter
two.
Out
in the north field Daisy the cow was slowly making her way towards
the center of the field to her favorite spot to lay down and sleep
for a few hours. Just as she was about to lower her hind legs she
bumped into something, she stopped, turned her head to see, no there
was nothing behind her. She walked round the spot, tried to sit but
again she bumped into an unseen object, it was like an invisible
wall. So, she decided to try another spot in the same area about 6
feet away, same thing. That’s odd she thought my eyesight must be
bad, I can feel it but not see it. She was after all a very old cow
in cow years. So she just figured her eyesight was bad and it was
dark even though the moon was out. She just moved to another spot
about 20 feet away, lay down and never gave it another thought.
Meanwhile
on the other side of the field 3 geese where making their way towards
the center of the field to see why Daisy had been acting strangely.
They had been living on Douglas island 4 years now and had become
used to daisy`s routine of sleeping in her favorite spot. On cold
nights they would settle down beside her for warmth and her body was
a great wind barrier. John, Paul and Ringo (the geese) waddled
towards Daisy`s new position. Ringo was the first to arrive.
“Daisy
why have you changed you sleeping spot” Ringo asked
“Well
there appears to be something there so I just decided to move until
the sun comes up”
“But
daisy there is nothing there, I can see very clearly, I have great
eyesight at night”
“Well
I sure bumped into something”
“What’s
up with Daisy” asked Paul as he joined them
“She
thinks there is something in her favorite sleeping spot”
“I
don’t see anything”
“Hey
that’s what I told her”
“Well
let’s go over and check it out boys” said John as he arrived
within earshot
So
all three waddled of to the center of the field. Ringo was the first
to arrive. He was just about to say ,See nothing there, when his long
beak struck something hard that made a clanking sound sort of like
hollow metal. He froze in his tracks, then leaned his head forward
ever so slowly, clink his beak made contact with something.
“John,
Paul, bless me! There is something here I can feel it but not see it,
Daisy is right”
“Ya!
Right, you got in to the kitchen cupboard again didn’t you? Had
some of Mr. James special water, told you that stuff would mess with
your head” said John coming up beside him
“I
have told you many; many times our place is in the yard stay out of
the hous...”Clank‼! His words were cut short as he walked
straight into the thing that was not there.
“What
the…What was that?”
“Gee
you have been drinking the Mr. James’s special water too” said
Ringo
“No,
seriously, what is that “as he touched it more cautiously this time
“You’re
asking me, you’re the know it all, you tell me Einstein”
“Einstein,
who`s Einstein, I don’t see any Einstein” said Paul joining them
“Do
we have a new friend, I like new friends, Einstein Pleased to meet
you, where are you?”
“Now
look what you have started John it will take us forever to explain to
him why I called you Einstein”
“Wait,
why did you call John Einstein?”
“Oh
boy here we go again, Listen Mac fly, I mean Paul”
“Who
is Macfly, boy two new friends” said Paul excitedly
“Hey
look! There is a big bag of bird seed on the house porch, last one
there is a sissy”
That
was all Paul needed to hear ‘BIRD SEED, and he was off in the
direction of the house forgetting all about his new friends Einstein
and Macfly.
“Whew!
That was close, now we can try to figure out what the thing is that’s
not here” said John
“Hey
that was not nice”
“I
know, but do you want to spend all night trying to explain why
Einstein and Macfly are not here?”
“Right
you are, but it still was not nice”
“Ok!
Back to the real mystery, what is this thing we can’t see?
